Celebratory Softball Game to Honour President Obama

on 13 May 2011.

"Yes We Can!!"

A wet and wild windy day welcomed our softball volunteers who had come together to participate in the celebratory softball game that would coincide with the memorable arrival of President Obama in Ireland.

Despite the weather the volunteers were in great spirits and gathered to receive there limited edition Obama t-shirts as a memento of the day. In spirit of the day the colours were American Red for Team USA, a collection of American players from throughout the Leinster league and Team Ireland in blue.

There was a number of banners and stars and stripes laid out, our inflatable tri coloured hammers didn’t get produced as they were only going to be taken away in the wind. A number of photographers also braved the elements to get some interesting shots. We also had a videographer who was part hampered with by the weather but hopefully he got some good stuff, the fruits of which will be seen on Softball Ireland website, we will link too it once uploaded. In the meantime here is a taster of the day that I put together

As the rain fell the National anthems were played and both teams were ready for a good fun game of ball. By the third or so inning the rain let up and believe it or not the sun began to shine, nicely drying us off! At the 5th inning we played "Take me out to the ballgame" with a plan of distributing crackerjack and peanuts but again the weather was inhibiting us, while the rain had stopped the wind was still wild!

I must give a special thanks to all my volunteers who made the day a good fun game of softball despite the weather, fair play! To our professional photographers from Inpho Sports Photography and Ebony and Pearl, many thanks. Check out our photo section of the site to see the gallery of shots.
